What a year it's been. Canadians have faced challenges like never before, but we still want to make the holiday season special, even though many of us continue to face hardships. It's not surprising that many of us will find this holiday season to be the most stressful and challenging yet.
Here are a few simple tips to help you enjoy this very different holiday season.
Shop local – More important now, than ever before! Do your best to support your local independent businesses. You’ll feel great knowing that this practice will help keep these businesses open, while also benefitting your community! If you need to purchase gift cards, again focus on local businesses and consider ones that can be used in the future to make memories with the recipient, such as active outings or a meal on the town.
Take time for yourself - You can’t take care of others if you don’t first take care of yourself! Schedule time this month to take advantage of unused health benefits such as chiropractic care or massage therapy.
Keep things in perspective - It’s not about perfection, it’s about doing your best. Don’t worry if you can’t meet every obligation, find, purchase or wrap the perfect gift. There has never been a better time to focus on being present with your loved ones, whether in person, on the phone or in an online meet-up.
Have a designated driver – Although so many holiday gatherings have been cancelled or limited by restrictions, if you’re imbibing, you’ll better enjoy your outing when you plan for a safe way home. Always have a sober designated driver, call a cab, stay the night or hire a ride home.
Do something good for others – Practice social distancing, but continue to drop in on neighbours or those who may be suffering from loneliness during this time of year, it will make them and you feel better. A little kindness can go a long way.
Take care of the things you’ve put off for the year - You’ll better enjoy the holiday season and feel accomplished about the upcoming year end if you take care of things you’ve been putting off all year, such as updating your will, organizing and safely storing your important documents, purchasing a
worry-free home appliance warranty plan or obtaining
life insurance... just to name a few!
Be kind, be patient and be merry! Enjoy your holidays.
