Protect Your Digital Life
Cybercrime is no longer only a concern for large companies. Individuals and families are regularly targeted through phishing emails, fraudulent websites, identity theft, hacked accounts, ransomware and increasingly convincing impersonation scams.

Police recorded 225.1 cybercrimes per 100,000 Canadians in 2024, more than double the rate reported in 2018. Fraud, identity-related offences and extortion accounted for 62% of police-reported cybercrime.

The financial impact continues to rise. According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, Canadians submitted more than 112,000 fraud reports involving over $704 million in reported losses during 2025. These included investment scams, phishing, identity fraud, online shopping fraud, extortion and criminals impersonating trusted organizations or individuals.

A Recent Example

A February 2026 report revealed that personal and credit card information belonging to some Canada Computers customers had been compromised. The breach affected people who entered their information while using the retailer’s online guest checkout between December 29, 2025, and January 22, 2026.

Affected customers were offered two years of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services. The incident demonstrates how information can be exposed even when consumers believe they are completing a routine purchase through a familiar Canadian retailer.

The Effects Can Last Long After the Attack

A cyber incident could leave you dealing with unauthorized purchases, fraudulent loans, compromised devices or accounts opened in your name. You may also spend considerable time cancelling cards, changing passwords, repairing your credit and proving that transactions were fraudulent.

Beyond the financial loss, cybercrime can create months—or even years—of stress and uncertainty.

How Personal Cyber Insurance Can Help

Personal cyber insurance is designed to provide financial protection and access to professionals who can help you respond to and recover from a cyber incident. Depending on the policy and circumstances, support and coverage may be available for:

  • Identity theft and fraudulent financial activity
  • Cyberattacks, malware and ransomware
  • Cyber extortion
  • Online shopping fraud
  • Data breaches
  • Cyberbullying and cyberstalking
  • Infected computers, mobile devices and smart-home technology
  • Financial losses and equipment repair costs
EasyInsure’s personal cyber insurance also provides access to cyber incident specialists, IT forensic professionals, legal support, cyber monitoring and assistance communicating with law enforcement.

Strong passwords, multifactor authentication and caution around unexpected messages remain important. However, even careful people can be affected by a breach, sophisticated scam or stolen personal information.

Personal cyber insurance provides another layer of protection for your finances, devices, identity and household.
