“Hey Siri, what’s the weather like today?” “OK Google, what’s it like outside?”
“Alexa, tell me the forecast.”
These days, it’s easier than ever to get the weather forecast in a moment’s notice from either a smart device, by flipping on The Weather Network, or listening to local news radio.
While it’s easy to learn about the potential of severe weather, it’s more important to be prepared for severe weather!
It’s not only about protecting your home and personal property from damage or loss, it’s about keeping you and your community safe.
You may have heard of “advisory”, “watches” and “warnings”…
but do you know what they mean? When should you take action? From Environment Canada:
Advisory:
Actual or expected weather conditions may cause general inconvenience or concern but are not expected to pose a serious enough threat to warrant a warning.
Watch:
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe weather. Caution should be taken. Watch the skies and listen for updates.
Warning:
A severe weather condition is occurring or hazardous weather is highly probable. Severe thunderstorms or tornado warnings can be issued less than one hour in advance of the actual event. Other weather warnings can be issued six to twelve hours in advance.
