‘Tis the season to relax and enjoy the holidays with family, friends and co-workers. We hope you’re able to do so… safely.
Despite increased awareness and widespread education, impaired driving continues to be the leading cause of criminal death in Canada.
Making the roads safer is everyone’s responsibility. Stand up and be that person who doesn’t allow impaired driving. There’s always another option.
Are you hosting a party? Here are some tips to help ensure that your guests enjoy your event and arrive home safely.
- Know how your guests plan on getting home and prepare in advance for long waits for taxis or driver services
- Offer lots of food and non-alcoholic drink options
- Monitor how much alcohol your guests are consuming, limit and be aware of your own consumption
- Serve drinks to your guests personally so you can properly monitor their alcohol intake
- Stop serving guests who are already intoxicated
- Have non-alcohol related games and activities for your guests to participate in
- Be prepared to offer easy options for your guests to stay the night
- Have available phone numbers for taxis, your Uber app updated or other designated driver options.
- If you are on the road and spot an impaired driver – be that person! Pull over when safe to do so and report as much information as possible (license plate number, vehicle type, colour, location, etc.) by calling 911.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday season!
